British chief consul here to take post Bernard Gilliat-Smith, recently appointed British Consul General here, arrived last night to take over his duties. Mr. Gilliat-Smith came here from Washington where he had stopped for a brief visit. He came to the United States from London, and this is his first visit to this country. A veteran of the British diplomatic corps, Mr. Gilliat-Smith has held posts in Bucharest, Rumania and in Leningrad, Soviet Union. Pending his arrival here, W.P. Nurse has acted as consul. New Orleans
