1958 Press Photo Robert Murphy and Lebanese President Camille Chamoun

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Robert Murphy, left, deputy under secretary of state and President Eisenhower's Middle East trouble shooter, sits in dim light with Lebanese President Camille Chamoun in the presidential residence in Beirut Thursday. With Lebanese revels only a short distance away, the curtains were drawn in the room and the photographer was not allowed to use flash for fear of drawing rebel fire. Murphy was sent to Lebanon soon after US Marines landed there.

Photo is dated 1958.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
