Description
Bayou Sorrel lock will be opened to navigation starting Monday, announced Col. Charles G. Holle, New Orleans district engineer for the Corps of Engineers. It is located on the Plaquemine-Morgan City alternate route of the Gulf Intracostal waterway, about 18 miles south of Plaquemine, La. The $4,500,000 project was constructed to provide a navigation opening through the east guide levee of the Atchafalaya basin floodway. It also shortens the present route by 19 miles for traffic between points west of Morgan City and the Mississippi river above Baton Rogue.

Photo is dated 1951.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
