Description
A bright, cold winter day, January 20, 1953, the Capitol steps. The leadership of the most powerful nation in the world changes hands again. The hero of the crusade in Europe takes the oath of office. The blunt-spoken Missourian, the man who made the fateful decision to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, steps down. And watching, the man who was once he arch villain of the Great Depression, only recently resurrected in the public esteem. There are three Presidents and one president-to-be on the platform, lost in their own private thoughts as they stand at attention for the Star-Spangled Banner. Herbert Hoover, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. But between the last three there is a wordless animosity, the bitter aftertaste of politics.

Photo is dated 1976.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
