John Jacob Astor is but rarely photographed. Besides it is not generally known that he has made special studies in military science. He is shown in this photo in the Iridium Room of the Hotel St. Regis, listening intently over a cigar as Mrs. John B. Aspergren discusses patriotic activities in which leaders of Metropolitan Society are engaged.
