Description
New Orleans, Mardi Gras Carnival. The only Carnival ball of the season, that of Harlequins, used a timely subject for its theme Saturday evening at the Municipal Auditorium. The occupation of Iceland by American Marines was portrayed in a setting of icebergs, polar bears, penguins and to make it even more realistic real service men were there to dance callouts. Here we see, a pretty Icelandic maiden, Ellie Witherspoon, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barkley Witherspoon who is home for the holidays from Vassar, during a callout with a sailor lad in the cast.

Photo is dated 1941.

Photo measures 7 x 9 inches.
