A University of Texas selection committee turned down Walt W. Rostow, above, for a dean's post because of his hawkish views on the Vietnam war, 1968 correspondence between the committee and the university president just made public reveals. Rostow, contacted Saturday, said he never knew of the nomination and would not have accepted it if tendered. 1968 TV appearance photo.
