Description
The first nuclear submarine launched in the south, named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee, moves smoothly into the James River from the plant of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. An estimated 2,500 persons attended the ceremony today which blended building of the ballistic missile sub and southern history.
