President Georges Pompidou Sees no peace until U.S. withdraws from Vietnam. President George Pompidou of France speaks during a press conference Thursday at Elysee Palace in Paris. He said he saw no possibility of peace in Indochina "until the day the United States has taken by itself, voluntarily, the firm resolution to evacuate Indochina." Pompidou also thought that chances for peace in the Middle East were a bit better now.
