United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, left, and United States Ambassador to the United Nations Daniel Moynihan, right, listen to speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly Monday. Kissinger unveiled at the meeting a new United States diplomatic initiative for a Middle East settlement based on an "informal" conference of Israel, the Arab states and other interested nations. Offered as a possible alternative to the dormant Geneva peace conference, Kissinger said that it would provide a means for the parties "to asses conditions and to discuss the future."
