Wilmer (Vinegar Bend) Mizell, who retired from baseball in 1962 after pitching for the Cardinals, the Pirates and the Mets, announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Congress in Lexington Tuesday. Mizell entered politics two years ago and is currently chairman of the Davidson County (NC) County Commission. He acquired his nickname from his birthplace--Vinegar Bend, Alabama.
