Description
President Julius Nyerere of Tanganyika and his wife wear national dress in January, 1963, shortly after he assumed office. Nyerere could not be reached today after it was reported a mutiny by units of the Tanganyika Army had moved into the capital city of Dar es Salaam and seized the President's residence. It was not known at once if he was being detained.
