Herbert Stein, chief economist for President Nixon, holds a chuck roast while talking about food prices Friday in Washington. Stein said the meat, weighing about four pounds, cost him $3.54. He said the same roast cost $3.96 two weeks ago. Stein criticized proposals of Democratic candidate George McGovern to raise farm supports, saying food prices would go up to 10 per cent.
