Peter G. Peterson, shown today at the White House, was named by President Nixon to become Secretary of Commerce, subject to Senate approval. Peterson, head of the President's Council of International Economic Policy, would replace Maurice Stans, background, who is resigning to assist President Nixon's re-election campaign.
