The State Department in Washington said tonight it understands that Premier Ngendandumwe of Burundi, above, was assassinated in the East African nation's capital city of Usumbura today. A department spokesman said details were lacking except that the American Embassy in Burundi had reported that the premier was killed as he left a hospital where his wife recently gave birth to a baby.
