Canon Bernard C. Pawley, treasurer of Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire, England, was appointed by the Church of England as its representative in Rome during preparations for the upcoming Vatican Council. Canon Pawley would provide a link between the Church of England council on inter-church relations and the Roman Catholic secretariat for promoting Christian unity.
