1967 Press Photo Lunar Orbiter V's photo of two large rocks on moon surface

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration describes this photo, released in Washington today, as showing two large rocks which have rolled downhill on the moon, leaving clearly defined tracks. NASA said the larger rock, about 75 feet across, left a trail some 900 feet long. The smaller one, more than 15 feet across, traveled some 1,200 feet. NASA said this is an enlargement of a photo made about 100 miles above the moon on August 17 by the Lunar Orbiter V spacecraft.

Photo is dated 1967.

Photo measures 11 x 8 inches.
