With these words the Indian Parliament and the world was informed of the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in New Delhi today. Nehru was 74. He was prime minister of India since it became independent in 1947 and was one of the world's leading statesmen. In this picture made in New York City during a visit in 1961 he wore a traditional rose in his tunic.
