1970 Press Photo Freed Brazilian prisoner Shizno Okawa at Mexico news conference

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
One of the five prisoners freed by the Brazilian government Sunday, Shizno Okawa (second from left) is interviewed by newsmen following his arrival in Mexico City. Okawa is also known as "Mario the Japanese." Freeing the five met demands of Brazilian guerrillas for the release of a Japanese diplomat they kidnapped last Wednesday. The kidnappers had said the diplomat, Consul General Nobuo Okuchi, 56, would be freed as soon as word reached Brazil from international news agencies of the safe arrival of the five prisoners.

Photo is dated 1970.

Photo measures 8 x 9 inches.
