Mike McGahey, left, vice president of the National Union of Mineworkers, and Joe Germley, president, walk toward their union's headquarters in London Thursday. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Edward Heath called a national election for February 28 and asked the coal miners to postpone their strike for the duration of the campaign. The miners were due to walk out Sunday.
