Lester Maddox, Democratic gubernatorial candidate, exhibits a news release in top picture in which he quoted U.S. Representative Howard (Bo) Callaway (left) as saying he would not leave Washington to run for governor. At bottom, Callaway, Maddox' Republican opponent in the November 8 general election, replies that he felt his place was in Washington at the time of the release. The candidates met in their first televised debate of issues Sunday.
