Judge Milton Marks, his hand raised in victory, handed the Republicans a major win last night when he was elected to fill the vacant Senate seat of the late Senator Eugene McAteer. Marks, a former Assemblyman, defeated Assemblyman John Burton, a Democrat. Both Democrats and Republicans now have 20 votes in the Senate.
