The American Waterways Operators (AWO), Incorporated was honored by the National Safety Council this week for demonstrating outstanding interest in the prevention of employee injuries through an accident prevention program. Paul Sheppard, director, Associations Division of the National Safety Council, presented the Council's 1964 Association Safety Award to Gresham Hougland, executive vice president of Hougland Barge Line, Incorporated, Paducah, Kentucky and chairman of the Board at AWO, at a luncheon following the Association's Board of Directors meeting here. Shown at the presentation ceremony in Chicago Illinois are, left to right, Mr. Hougland accepting the award on behalf of AWO; William C. McNeal, vice president of Oil Transport Company, Incorporated, New Orleans, Louisiana, who as chairman of AWO's Safety Committee in 1964 played an important role in planning and executing AWO's accident prevention program; Mr. Sheappard presenting the award, and K.W. Scoggins, operating manager of M-W-T Company, Alton, Illinois, who served as vice chairman of AWO's Safety Committee in 1964 and is now chairman.
