Here are four views of former President Herbert Hoover as he grew from childhood to early manhood. From left, the future President, who was born on August 10, 1874, appears as child of about five in his native West Branch,... as a schoolboy of 12 in 1886 at Pacific College, Newberg, Oregon, where Hoover was taken by an uncle after his father and mother died, at the age of 17, when he was employed as an office boy in Salem, Oregon, shortly before entering Stanford University; and as a young mining engineer in 1904, at the age of 30.
