Talking things over before parting company in Saigon are General Alexander M. Haig, Jr., (left), President Nixon's special peace envoy and ....Commander Frederick Weyand. U.S. officials indicated Sunday that Haig's two-day visit with President Nguyen van Thieu appears to have cleared the way for a resumption of private negotiations with North Vietnam in Paris. Haig and Weyand conferred before Haig left Saigon Sunday.
