1967 Press Photo Mayor of "Frogtown," says jumping frog is a toad - now02890

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Vrle T. Minto, mayor of "Frogtown," takes wry look at entry airlifted by Mayor T.R. McKeldin of Baltimore, Maryland for competition in this weekend's International Frog Jump at Angels Camp, California. McKeldin's frog turned out to be a toad. Since they don't jump, amphibians of the Bufonidae family may not be entered. Minto advised Baltimore's mayor he would find a robust, athletic substitute to carry the banner for Baltimore if another entry does not arrive in time.

Photo is dated 1967.

Photo measures 8 x 10.5 inches.
