Description
The Nazi and The Barber, by Edgar Hilsenrather is a novel that traces the career of Max Schulz, an SS Sergeant who exterminates thousands of concentration camp inmates, including his boyhood companion Itzik Finkelstein, a Jewish barber. Schulz, in order to escape post-war punishment, assumes barber Finkelstein's identity and emigrates to Israel, where he becomes a hero in the wars with the Arabs. Edgar Hilsenrath was born in Germany, and lived in Paris and Israel before settling in New York.
