Mrs. Gurley M'Gehee Verberg (left) of Hammond, the only person ever to be among the finalists twice in the Golden Yam Project, chats with Miss Beverly Williams, winner of this year's sweet potato contest. Miss Williams of Effie won her title as 1968 champion yam cook at state finals in Opelousas during the Yambilee this week. She baked a Yam Crown Cake. Mrs. Verberg was a state winner and champion yam cook one year and runner-up in the competition another year.
