1962 Press Photo Professor Robert Wauchope examines ancient manuscript volume

Description
Professor Robert Wauchope examines ancient manuscript volume. - This is an amusing and instructive report on the divergent views about the origin of the American Indian. Without trying to answer the question of that origin definitively, it chides pseudo-scientists and emphasizes how much remains to be done before anyone can offer answers that would satisfy the authoritative anthropologists today. Professor Wauchope, director of Tulane University's Middle American Research Institute, obviously has no ax to grind. He shows little concern about how honors may be bestowed regarding the divergent theories. He laughs off some of the ideas that have gained extensive circulation if not popular acceptance. In "Doctor Phuddy Duddy and the Crackpots" and elsewhere he makes some supposed scholars the butt of his comments.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
