Description
The New Orleans Presbytery of the U.S. Presbyterian Church today voted, 38-33, to recommend to the church's national body that local presbyteries be authorized to choose women to serve as ministers, ruling elders and deacons. In church terminology, a presbytery is a regional ruling. The recommendation will be sent to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, U.S. (Southern Presbyterians). Other presbyteries are voting on the question throughout the church and voting will conclude before April. The Reverend Stewart W. Yandle, left, head of a committee assigned to make a recommendation on whether women should serve as officers of the Presbyterian Church, U.S., talks with members of his committee, from left, the Reverend C.E. Von Rosenburg, Elder Henry Shepard, the Reverend C.C. Elrod and H.P. Rose. The group submitted a report today at the quarterly meeting of the New Orleans Presbytery.

Photo is dated 1964.
