Description
Miss Ethel Schoeffner, who provided free meals for her underprivileged pupils long before the state's lunch program was inaugurated, Sunday was honored on her retirement after 48 years as a teacher in the public schools of St. Charles Parish. T.H. Roger, Jr., master of ceremonies at a reception sponsored by the Norco Primary School Parent-Teacher Association, said Miss Schoeffner always had "hot grits and butter" for her pupils who were not fortunate enough to have a breakfast at home. A school bell which she used in the early days of her teaching career was one of the gifts presented to Miss Ethel Schoeffner (center) who has retired after teaching for 48 years in the public schools of St. Charles Parish. The bell was presented by Mrs. William Rook (left), president of the parent-teacher association at the Norco Primary School, where a reception for Miss Schoeffner was held. Looking on is T.H. Roger, Jr., master of ceremonies.
