1963 Press Photo Hopeful Planters planting Cypress trees at Audubon Park

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
A Cypress Tree donated by the Hopeful Planters, a new garden club less than a year old, is planted at the entrance to Audubon Park at St. Charles avenue to replace trees lost in the park due to freezing. This is a Louisiana bald cypress and the park area where it is planted is called Cypress Point. Cypress trees are being planted to replace palms which once grew in the area. George Douglas, park superintendent, handles the shovel at the planting Wednesday. Members of the garden club are Mrs. E.S. Joubert Sr. (left) and Mrs. Fritts M. Martine's.

Photo is dated 1963.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
