Science Learned How to split the atom long before it learn how to simply flip it, or turn it over. Flipping the atomic nuclei of crystals is a key part of a pure research project, recently backed by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, being conducted in the Newcomb College department of physics. Above, Dr. Ronald A. Laing, assistant physics professor, and graduate student Jean Cass, watch an oscilloscope to see if the nuclei are "flipping" on schedule.
