1969 Press Photo Dr. Gaither M'Connell addresses reading problems in children

Elementary school children are shown by Dr. Gaither M'Connell that through such incentive devices as special pamphlet exhibits and trips to their nearest library they may find new interests and reading materials that will help them grow into reading for knowledge and reading for fun. Pictured, left to right, are Thomas Lowenburg, Tracy Mitchell, Jimmy Mitchell and Helen Hawn. This is the second article in a three part series of specific reading problems of elementary school children today. Articles are based on interviews with Dr. Gaither McConnell, professor of education at Tulane University.
