The Reverend Dr. James I. McCord, above, president of Princeton Theological Seminary, is among many church leaders who have cited the Heidelberg catechism for its breadth and wisdom in its emphasis on universal Protestant fundamentals. The catechism, a manual for doctrinal instruction, was 400 years old last week. Anniversary observances are being launched in Reformed and Presbyterian circles in the United States and abroad.
