1968 Press Photo Leonard Buss & John E. Jacobs-Inventors-New type of Microscope

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Leonard Buss, left, produces a color image of the inside of his finger on a television screen by holding it in the path of sound waves. The equipment to do this was developed by John E. Jacobs of Northwestern University, right, with the help of graduate students like Buss. By permitting doctors to see images of the inside of living tissues, the device provides them with a new tool for detecting and diagnosing human ailments.

Photo is dated 1968.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
