The Southern regional meeting among the diocesan directors for the 1957 Bishops' Relief Appeal will be held Wednesday at the Roosevelt Hotel. Directors from the Southern area will meet with Msgr. Edward E. Swanstrom, Executive director of catholic Relief Services - national catholic Welfare Conference, administrative agency for the Bishops' Relief Fund. The directors will lay plans for this year's campaign to aid the on-going programs among the needy, hungry, and homeless in 40 free countries of the world and to expand operations in countries where no relief programs exist. Also discussed were the problems of the refugees whose emigration has been stopped due to the expiration of the Refugee Relief Act of 1953 and the Hungarian refugees from the Communists given asylum in the United States. A speaker will be the Rev. Fabian of Boston, field director of catholic Relief Services in Austria, called one of the "handful of Americans who emerged as heroes of the U. S. effort to admit refugees from Hungarian Communism to the United States.
