Description
Lewis I. Bourgeois and Rene Curry, "public schools are in deplorable condition". The Young Men's Business Club voted 68 to 12 yesterday in favor of a two mill increase in school taxes. The vote came after an hour's discussion, which opened when John Watermeier, chairman of the educational bureau, asked the club to approve the increase. School superintendent Bourgeois told the club schools must have more money. He said the two-mill increase would bring in $1,200,000 a year, which would be used to build and operate new schools.
