Picture Out Of Our Past. "The dashing figure at the left," writes Miss Mary B. Walle, 241 Aurora Avenue, Metairie, "is my granduncle William Evans, a blade of the Gay Nineties. "The story goes that Will, in his teens, saved a man from being trampled by a runaway horse. The man was a former Union officer and an official in the Reconstruction government."He was so grateful to Will that he offered him a post in the Customs House. But Will's mother wouldn't hear of his working with the damn Yankees.

Photo is dated 1962.
