1966 Press Photo Rivergate convention facility construction on busy riverfront.

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
A room as long as Canal Street is wide would be quite a spacious spot. But this would be small indeed compared to a room under construction near the point where that famous New Orleans thoroughfare meets the Mississippi River. The vast, undulating curves of concrete which are emerging from the forms of The Rivergate will be the roof of a room whose width will be considerably greater than that of Canal Street and whose length will be approximately four times the distance between the lines of stores on New Orleans' main drag. Giant Rivergate convention facility is imposing as it takes shape along the busy riverfront of New Orleans.

Photo is dated 1966.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
