Description
The Louisiana Highway Department has recommended an elevated riverfront expressway built on arches and trimmed with iron work and light standards in keeping with the appearance of Jackson Square for that portion passing alongside the square. George Stevenson, head of urban planning for the department, said the recommendations already are in the hands of the United States Bureau of Roads, which is putting up 90 percent of the cost to build the controversial Riverfront Elysian Fields elevated roadway. How expressway would look from Jackson Square as recommended by Highway Department.
