A Crucifix is extended from a statue toward the congregation of St. Michael's Church as Archbishop John P. Cody Sunday celebrates a Pontifical Low Mass in commemoration of the parish's 100th anniversary. It was the archbishop's first time to face a congregation while reading the English Mass under the new liturgy. Archbishop Jean Marie established the parish at the close of the Civil War to serve Irish Catholics living uptown between the parishes of St. Alphonsus and St. Theresa of Avila. The Reverend Morris N. Dummet is pastor at St. Michael's
