1968 Press Photo Guests of St. Stefan Hotel Cottages at entrance to Causeway

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
St. Stefan. Hand truck takes luggage of arriving guests at entrance to causeway which is a pedestrian bridge. Cars must be left in parking lot on mainland. Profiting by the examples of such neighbors as Greece and Italy, the Yugoslavian government jumped into the tourist business with un-Communist zeal, and has been busily exploiting its scenic and cultural resources for a decade. One of their outstanding achievements has been the conversion of the whole island community of St. Stefan into a tourist hotel which can accommodate 200 guests in houses which were once privately owned.
