1964 Press Photo Salvation Army Volunteers Assist Selection of Gifts at Center

Description
Salvation Army Volunteers help mothers select gifts at the annual distribution of gifts at the Salvation Army's food and toy center. There are no children allowed here today when the Salvation Army distributed hundreds of Christmas toys to needy families, but there was a very good reason. Salvation Army officials asked that only parents come to pick up the gifts because they feel it is important to protect the sacred identity of Santa Claus. "We want the toys brought home and left Christmas morning as if Santa himself had come," said Major. Walter C. Wolfe.
