1968 Press Photo Welsh Miners with soot-covered faces in Glasgow, Scotland

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Welsh miners like these have always backed the Labor Party, but the closing of many of the mines has caused the men to throw their support to the Plaid Cymru, the Welsh National party. Glasgow, Scotland - Tiny, ash-blonde Mrs. Winifred Ewing, newly elected member of Parliament, looks anything but a Scottish feminine Joan of Arc. Intensely feminine and smelling of lavender (surely Joan of Arc didn't use perfume), Mrs. Ewing looks as though she were too timid to say boo to a goose.

Photo is dated 1968.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
