Description
This is a general view of the heavily-guarded laboratories of the top secret microbiological research establishment at Porton, Wiltshire, England. It was here that scientist Geoffrey Bacon, 44, was taken ill and died on August 2 after contracting pneumonic plague - the medieval Black Death. The War Office attributed his death to the plague yesterday. Severe precautions have been taken at the laboratories and the British health authorities are confident that they have contained the possible spread of the disease.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
