1975 Press Photo Parking meter in the 700 block of Poydras has slots for coins

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
This parking meter in the 700 block of Poydras Street has slots for a nickel, dime and quarter. The interesting part about this is the meter has a one hour time limit: 15 minutes for each nickel, or 30 minutes for each dime. Thus, the most of parker can pay is 20 cents. The quarter slot is apparently a moneymaker for the city since it obviously takes advantage of a person who may only had a quarter in change. The meter, of course, does not give change.

Photo is dated 1975.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
