New Orleans Recreation Department-Sponsored Hike. The advance guard of 62 men and boys who started a 30-mile hike sponsored by the New Orleans recreation department are shown as they started out on the Mississippi River levee, near St. Charles and Carrollton leave early today. They were to walk 15 miles up the levee, then retrace their steps.
