The featured speaker at a banquet last night for the Louisiana judiciary and the judicial council of the State Supreme Court was W. St. John Garwood, former associate justice of the Texas supreme court. He is greeted above by Judge L.P. Stephens of Coushatta, president of the state district judges' association. --- Texas Jurist Suggests Ways to Select Judges -- A former associate justice of the Texas supreme court called for the selection - not election - of judges as a means of getting the best legal talent for the judiciary. Judge W. St. John Garwood of Austin, Texas, made the proposal at a Roosevelt hotel banquet last night which followed the opening of the annual joint meeting of the Louisiana judiciary and the judicial council of the Louisiana supreme court.
