1966 Press Photo Oil well pump upriver from New Orleans, Louisiana - noc01010

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
More than half of Louisiana's oil is produced by pumps like this one which is in a semi-shallow field just upriver from New Orleans. The glamor wells are the ones which are flowing with gas pressure, but the bread-and-butter still comes from the old reliable pumps, which are put on the well after the gas pressure has dropped.

Photo is dated 1966.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
